Caffeine Spotlight: Art + Science Cafe

After years of being a tea drinker, coffee has quickly become my drink of choice. Nothing calms me down like a cup of peppermint tea before bed, but my day absolutely cannot start without a steaming cup of black coffee. Most days I’m made up of more caffeine than water, much to Mike’s dismay.

Since we moved to Pasadena, it has been my goal to visit as many coffee spots in the greater Los Angeles area as possible. I’ve had a growing list of locations stored away in my phone, and this past week felt like a great time to begin tackling it. First up? Art + Science Cafe, just down the street in Pasadena.

This coffee spot is still relatively new to the area, having opened a couple months ago. It’s located slightly off the beaten path known as Colorado Boulevard, home to the bustling shops of Old Town Pas and the famous Rose Parade. The first thing you’ll notice when you walk up to the Art + Science Cafe is the building it’s set in. The architecture is reminiscent of something you’d find in Europe or New York, yet it has a cozy feel to it. While the inside of the Cafe was pretty busy, the outdoor seating area still offered plenty of tables and felt quiet enough to provide a pleasant space to work or simply enjoy your cup of caffeine.

From the second we walked in, Mike and I enjoyed friendly service from the staff. We were asked if it was our first time visiting and after we confirmed it was, our barista recommended their best sellers. It was a tough choice, but I decided to try something different from my usual order and I went with the Lavender Latte while Mike ordered a Cold Brew Coffee.

I ended up loving my Lavender Latte so much that it barely lasted five minutes after I snapped a few pictures. I can see why this drink is such a hit with customers, as the lavender is just present enough to add a sweet flavor without being overpowering. I love the taste of plain coffee and Mike’s Cold Brew is perhaps one of the best I have ever tasted. If you aren’t a big fan of that bitter taste, I wouldn’t recommend ordering it, but the boldness of the Cold Brew was exactly what I want out of a drink like that. In the words of Agent Dale Cooper, it was damn fine coffee.

The combination of the coffee, atmosphere, and customer service have easily made Art + Science Cafe a coffee spot I’m truly impressed with. Whether it’s to get my caffeine fix, get some writing done, or just enjoy a day out with my love, I look forward to revisiting this new local spot. Plus, I’ve got my eye on the famous Chicago-style Military Latte. Looks like I’ll be making a second trip soon 🙂
